We have created a 100 capacity performance space with a full sound system, lighting rig and a licensed tavern. Throughout the year we curate a schedule of activities designed to be as inclusive of the diverse community around us as physically possible. From regular spoken word/poetry evenings and vinyl record appreciation clubs, to our monthly Live at the Barracks sessions which host nationally-acclaimed touring acts and DJs, we strive to bring affordable entertainment and distinctive cultural experiences to our remote community.
With no other dedicated venue spaces for an hour drive, we take care to maintain a reputation for sourcing incredible talent. In the past few years alone we have hosted theatre performances, jazz evenings, youth-led music events with an incredible calibre of U18 acts, environmental discussions and so much more. To date we have welcomed such high-calibre acts as Natty, Tankus the Henge, Chainska Brassika, Land of the Giants, Haunt the Woods, Hallouminati, Wille and the Bandits, John Fairhurst, plus DJ takeovers from the Worm Disco Club family, Plymouth’s own Vivify experience, a secret show with Tom Findlay from Groove Armada, and entire weekends of live broadcasting and workshops with Incapable Staircase Radio.
Our ticketed events often sell out in advance, but any remaining tickets can be purchased on the door on a first-come first-served basis. We are easy enough to find, on the ground floor of the Barrack Block at Maker Heights, PL10 1LA, under the granite staircase to the rear. Doors to our events open at 7pm and we kick off the first performance shortly after. Under 18s are more welcome until 10pm when the live music finishes, but must be accompanied by a responsible adult. All profits from our events go back into fulfilling our community mission statement and creative projects, and quite literally keeping the lights on and the doors open.
Our tavern is stocked with a great selection of fine wine, local ales, and quality spirits, and our creative collaborators in the Garrison Gallery next door are always serving up a fresh and exciting menu of delicious handcrafted cocktails and locally sourced brews for you to bring through into our venue.
